Thirsty Thursday Presents: The Mojito
We LOVE to travel to the Caribbean! In fact our company was started because we had a group of 30 of us going on a cruise out of San Juan, Puerto Rico 15 years ago!!
To read the whole story about how Team Cocktail came to be check out the About Us Page here.
Ahhh Puerto Rico! What do you think of when you hear Puerto Rico? Baseball? Beaches? Well we think of Mojitos! We have visited Puerto Rico many times over the past 15 years and we have yet to find a mojito on the island we don't like. It seems that every bar we visit and every bartender who serves us has their own special take on the mojito…and they nail it every time! Those Puerto Ricans know their mojitos and rum!
While we can't always be on the white sand beaches or lounging by the pool in Puerto Rico, especially now that we are all staying at home, what we can do is learn how to make this delicious cocktail and enjoy it at home. I prefer to drink mine outside in the sun, with some Kenny Chesney on in the background. But that's just me!
Below I show you how to make one version of this simple, but delicious cocktail!
Classic Mojito
- 6-8 Mint Leaves
- 3/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 1 oz Simple Syrup
- 1 1/2 oz Rum (Pick your favorite)
- 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
- Club Soda/Sparkling Water
- Ice
In a cocktail shaker, muddle together mint, lime juice, and simple syrup. Add rum and bitters; shake over ice. Strain in to a glass and top with club soda.
If you were on our Instagram LIVE Happy Hour with my friend Vicki from Bubbly Side of Life you have already seen us make this drink. But if you weren't able to be there…here is the recipe we created!!
As we mentioned there are many different ways to make a mojito. Here are a few of our other tried and true recipes that Team Cocktail makes when we can't be in Puerto Rico, but want to enjoy a drink from the island.
Classic Mojito - Take #2
- 1 tsp Brown Sugar
- 7-10 Mint Leaves
- 1 Lime Wedge
- 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
- Muddle the above ingredients then add:
- 1 1/2 oz Rum (Pick your favorite)
- Club Soda/Sparkling Water
- Ice
Shake everything together, pour into glass and top with a little club soda! You can garnish with a lime wedge and a sprig of mint. Although you may want to save that mint for your next mojito!
Want to add a little fruit to your mojito diet…try this recipe for a Pineapple mojito!
Pineapple Mojito
- 1 – 1 1/2 oz Pineapple Rum (We used Cruzan Pineapple Rum)
- 3 oz Soda Water
- 2 Pineapple chunks
- 1 tsp Simple Syrup
- 1/2 tsp Brown Sugar
- 1/2 Lime – Squeezed fresh
- Mint leaves (to taste)
Muddle mint, pineapple chunks, simple syrup, brown sugar and lime juice. Add Pineapple Rum, Ice & Soda Water. Stir & enjoy! If you're fancy go ahead and use another piece of pineapple as a garnish. We prefer to just drink our mojitos…no garnish needed!
